Carrying On
Tumblr media
Photos are not mine. They are courtesy of Pinterest/Google.
Pairing: Dad Dean Winchester x F! Reader
Warnings: Couple of swear words, fluff, mentions of readers father’s death, smooches, a little hunter violence
Word Count: 1.7K-ish
Summary: You just bought a house in a new state, trying to see if you can move on after your father’s untimely death. Your neighbor introduces himself and already you’re feeling more at home
A/N: So this is my first time writing for Dean, dear god I hope it doesn’t suck. I wanted to write more for this but I still have asks in my inbox for my sleepover I need to get to(I’m trying my hardest to answer them all, I thank you all for your patience.) I’d even be willing to do another part for this because I had fun writing this one! I hope you like it! ♥️
As always, thank you for reading!  I appreciate it so much and comments, reblogs are welcome and encouraged. Don’t be shy to tell me your favorite part. 💕💕 💕
The house was at the end of a nice quiet street. Your suitcases were piled high in the back seat, almost too high to see out the rear window but it wouldn’t be for much longer. It will be nice to finally stretch your legs after being in the car for such a long drive.
When you pulled into the driveway, you noticed that the “For Sale” sign had been removed from the front lawn. This was your home now and you were determined to live your life as normal as possible from now on.
After your father passed away, you left the flat lands of Oklahoma for the mountains of Colorado. There was just something about that cool mountain air. But you didn’t want to live IN the mountains, you didn’t want to be alone so moving into a neighborhood NEAR the mountains was a good compromise.
A man and, what you assumed to be, his young son were playing catch in the front yard. The boy tossed the baseball to his father but the man wasn’t paying attention. He was too busy looking at your car which happened everywhere you went.
You and your father had rebuilt that car and restored it to its former glory. It was your dream car…a 1967 Pontiac GTO in midnight blue. The way the paint reflected the light, the car almost looked purple. It was a gorgeous car.
The car in your neighbor’s driveway was impressive also. It was a 1967 Chevy Impala, black.
“DAD!! You missed!” The boy shouted.
“Hold on, son. You see that car? She must be our new neighbor. Let’s go say hello.” The man said.
Reaching for the sky, you stretched until some of the tightness in your shoulders went away. You then saw your new neighbor.
“Fuck me.” You whispered under your breath.
He was very handsome with medium brown hair, a well-groomed beard, and green eyes. As he came closer, you saw a splash of freckles across his nose and his young son was a carbon copy of his father.
You smiled warmly as they came closer.
“Hi there! I’m your new neighbor. I’m y/f/n y/l/n.”You extended your hand to shake his.
After you introduced yourself, the man had a slightly confused look on his face that quickly disappeared.
He extended his hand for you to shake. “I’m Dean and this is my son Charlie.”
“It’s really nice to meet you.” You said.
Charlie interjected himself. “Dad missed the ball because he was staring at your car.”
“Charlie…” Said Dean through clenched teeth.
“Ah, well I do get that a lot. You wanna sit in it?” You asked.
Charlie’s eyes went wide. “Sure!”
You opened the car door so Charlie could sit on the driver’s side.
Dean pointed at the car. “That is a nice car. ’69?” He asked.
You bit down on your lower lip to keep from smiling. “It’s a ’67 actually, like your Impala.”
“Impressive…I don’t know a lot of women that would know that to look at it.” He said.
“Well, we do exist.” You said, a little sarcastically.
Dean smiled at you and said softly. “Yes, I guess you do.”
When he realized he was staring, he quickly snapped out of the trance he was in.
“Um, yeah so um, do you have furniture coming or anything? I’m happy to help.” He said.
“Oh the moving truck is coming tomorrow so I just have the bare essentials for tonight. Thank you for the offer, I may take you up on that.” You said.
“Well, we’ll let you get settled. Just knock when the truck comes…Charlie!! Come on, let’s let y/n settle in to her new house.” Said Dean.
As they walked away, you heard Charlie tell his dad, “Dad, you were staring at her.”
Dean narrowed his eyes and furrowed his brow. “No I wasn’t…get the ball.”
“Yes you were, Dad. I saw you.” Said Charlie.
You shook your head back and forth then smiled. They both seemed really sweet.
Three Months Later
You had settled nicely into your new home. The final box had been unpacked and you were adjusting to your new surroundings and your new neighbors. Although there was something that bothered you about Dean’s house.
Every so often, not a lot but every now and again, you noticed that the basement light would flicker. It wasn’t all the time but when it did, it was always at the same time, which you thought was strange.
Everything else seemed to be fine so you didn’t look too closely at it.
You really did like Dean and you adored Charlie. They were your friends, so you contemplated, at least telling Dean about your past, how your father really died, and why you left your home state.
One Saturday morning, all of the windows were open and you could hear music coming from their house. It sounded like…Asia – Heat of the Moment.
You giggled a little bit and thought to yourself, “Really Dean, Asia?”
Dean had a deep booming voice.
“Rise and shine, Charlie!!” He said, loudly but playfully.
After doing some housework, you heard a knock on your door. Walking down the hall from the bedroom into the kitchen, you saw Dean standing at the side door through the screen. He was leaning against the door frame.
“Hey there. What can I do for ya?” You asked, opening the screen door.
“Hey, I was wondering if you’d like to come over for dinner tonight? I thought maybe we could tell Charlie, um…well, about us.” He said, shyly.
Charlie didn’t know that about a month after you moved in, you and Dean started to hang out with each other after he went to sleep.
He’d come over for a drink, sometimes a movie, or a lot of the time, the two of you would just talk, and the relationship just sort of happened.
Charlie’s mom had passed away three years ago and it had just been the two of them since then. Obviously you weren’t trying to get in the way of their relationship and you DEFINITELY weren’t trying to replace his mom but you really did like the both of them and Charlie deserved to know the truth…they both did.
You snaked your arms around Dean’s neck, let your fingers run through his soft brown hair, and leaned in to kiss him. The bristles of his beard tickled your chin and you smiled in between his kisses. You really were smitten with him.
“I’d love to…I’ll bring you guys a special dessert.” You said.
A shy smile extended across Dean’s face. “Awesome…oh and I’m not much of a cook so I hope you’re ok with burgers. Alright? Ok, good talk.” He said, as he smacked you on the ass and turned around to walk back home.
You were going to come clean tonight.
Walking over to Dean’s, you remembered the first time you saw the last name on the mailbox…Winchester. Dean Winchester. All hunters knew that name, that family, his brother Sam, their father John, and their mother Mary.
They were famous in the world of hunting. Your family name stayed under the radar. Sure, you and your dad had some pretty big hunts and cases but nothing compared to the Winchesters.
Charlie answered when you knocked.
“Y/n!!!” He said, excitedly.
“Hey buddy!” You replied.
Charlie saw you holding the pie in your hands.
“Oh you brought Dad’s favorite.” He said.
“I did? Well I hope you guys like it, I made it from scratch.” You said.
“Dad’s always eating pie…he’s out back, come on!” He said, tugging on your t-shirt.
The three of you had a nice dinner together filled with a lot of laughs and you breathed a sigh of relief when Charlie said he was ok that you were his dad’s girlfriend.
The child like smile Dean had on his face as he was about to taste the pie made you smile. Before he could take his first bite, the lights flickered.
He looked up at the kitchen light as it continued to flicker. “Son of a bitch.” He boomed.
“Dad, language!” Shouted Charlie.
“Not now, Charlie.” He growled.
You stood up and backed away from the kitchen table. “Where’s the salt, Dean?” You asked.
“What? How do you--?” He started to say.
“The salt, Dean…NOW!!!” You shouted.
Dean got the bag of salt from underneath the kitchen sink and you had Charlie stand in an open area in the dining room, while his dad drew a salt circle around him. Then he pulled out two shotguns from underneath the couch in the living room filled with rock salt.
“Charlie…buddy, don’t move from this spot, do you understand?” You asked him, looking into his scared eyes.
He nodded.
Standing back to back, holding the shotguns, Dean asked, “Is there something you wanna tell me?”
As fast as you could, you explained yourself. “Ok, so I come from a family of hunters too, nothing like yours of course but I left Oklahoma after my father died saving me from a nest of vampires. It was just me and him, my whole life and when he died, I felt like I couldn’t hunt without him.” You said.
Low moans and hisses were emanating through the walls as the lights continued to turn on and off.
“I can’t believe you’re a hunter. That’s why when you introduced yourself, your name sounded familiar to me!” Shouted Dean.
Charlie stood petrified inside the salt circle. “Dad, what’s going on?”
“It’s alright, buddy. We’re gonna be alright.” Said Dean.
Two apparitions came through the wall and headed straight for you when you blasted them with rock salt.
“Are y-you m-mad?” You asked, while trying to catch your breath.
“Mad? I’m only mad that I didn’t get to eat my pie! As far as you being a hunter, well…I gotta say I’m a little turned on.” He said.
In the middle of a life or death situation, Dean managed to make you blush.
“What does that mean, Dad?” Asked Charlie.
In unison, you and Dean yelled, “Not now, Charlie!”
“When we’re done with this, we’re gonna have a talk.” Dean pointed his finger at you.
“But you’re not mad?” You asked with a slight smile.
Dean smiled at you, his bright green eyes looked like fresh blades of grass as he leaned in to kiss your forehead.
“Nah, I’m not mad sweetheart. Now let’s kill these things so I can eat my pie.”

Cheyenne
The Cheyenne are a North American Native nation, originally from the Great Lakes region, who migrated to modern-day Minnesota and then to areas in North Dakota and further southwest. They are associated with the Plains Indians culture and, after mastering the horse, became one of the most powerful nations of the American West.
Initially hunter-gatherers, the Cheyenne adopted agriculture and lived in permanent dwellings, raising crops that included wild rice. Some of the Cheyenne's defining characteristics are given by scholar Michael G. Johnson:
they lived in fixed villages, practiced agriculture, and made pottery, but lost these arts after being driven out onto the Plains to become nomadic bison hunters. They became one of the focal points of the Plains culture, characterized by tipi dwelling, development of age-graded male societies, geometrical art, and the development of the ceremonial world renewal complex, the Sun Dance. (118)
After their migration from the Great Lakes region, caused by the influx of other Native peoples into the area, they abandoned permanent settlements for a nomadic lifestyle, adopted the teepee (tipi) as housing, and followed the buffalo, which, like with other Plains Indians nations, was their primary food source. At first, they used dogs as pack animals to move their villages, but, after they mastered the horse in the 17th century, horses became their central mode of transportation as well as a status symbol of wealth and power.
They spoke (and still speak) the Cheyenne language which belongs to the Algonquian language group and allied themselves with the Arapaho, another Algonquian-speaking nation, in the early 19th century. The Cheyenne and Arapaho have continued their relationship up through the present day.
They hold to an animistic religious belief that all life is sacred, imbued with a spirit, and interconnected. Religious rituals include the Sun Dance, which is said to have been given to them by their great prophet Sweet Medicine, who also instituted formal government, societal structure, and the original four military societies that would become increasingly important in the wars of the 19th century fought against Euro-American expansion across their lands and the genocidal policies of the US government.
Conflicts with the US Army, the mass slaughter of the buffalo by white hunters to eliminate their food source, and the introduction of European diseases greatly reduced the number of Cheyenne throughout the 19th century, during which they were forced onto reservations as more of their land was taken by white settlers. Today the majority of the Northern Cheyenne live on the reservation in Montana while most of the Southern Cheyenne live on the reservations in Oklahoma.
Name & Nation
The name they are most commonly known by was given by the Sioux. Scholar Adele Nozedar comments:
The name Cheyenne was, for a while, believed to be derived from the French word for "dog" which is chien, since this people had a noted society of Dog Soldiers. However, the name is actually a Sioux word meaning "people of different speech." The Cheyenne name for themselves, Tsistsistas, means "beautiful people." (93)
The meaning of Tsistsistas has actually been translated in several ways, including "the people", "like-minded people", and "like-hearted people." They called their homelands Tsiihistano, meaning "home of the people," which, at the height of Cheyenne power, stretched from Montana to Texas and their economy depended on the great herds of bison, which they hunted across these lands seasonally.
The Cheyenne nation, originally of three groups, expanded to ten prior to the 19th century, including:
Heviqs-nipahis
Hevhaitanio
Masikota
Omisis
Sutaio
Wotapio
Oivimana
Hisiometanio
Ogtoguna
Honowa
These ten make up "the people" of the Cheyenne nation, who are represented by delegates to the governing body known as the Council of Forty-Four, but there are other bands who are also considered Cheyenne. Further, the nation is divided into the people known as Northern Cheyenne and Southern Cheyenne.

Patreon request for @/rome.and.stuff (Instagram handle) - Saurophaganax maximus
Tumblr media
Saurophaganax maximus was an allosaurid from Late Jurassic Oklahoma, USA. Reaching 10.5 metres (34 ft) in length and weighing 2.7–3.8 metric tons (3.0–4.2 short tons), it was the largest terrestrial carnivore in North America during the Late Jurassic, bigger than both its contemporaries Torvosaurus tanneri and Allosaurus fragilis. Some scientists argue that it was in fact a species of Allosaurus (making it “Allosaurus maximus”), but possible Saurophaganax material found in New Mexico may shed light on the genus. With a name meaning "lord of lizard-eaters", it was likely the apex predator of its environment.
Tumblr media
Found in the Brushy Basin member of the Morrison Formation, Saurophaganax would have had a multitude of prey species to choose from. These ranged from small ornithischians like Camptosaurus, Dryosaurus, and Fruitadens, armoured thyreophorans like Gargoyleosaurus, Mymoorapelta, Hesperosaurus, and Stegosaurus, to a diverse array of giant sauropods like Haplocanthosaurus, Amphicoelias, Apatosaurus, Brontosaurus, Barosaurus, Diplodocus, Kaatedocus, Supersaurus, Brachiosaurus, and Camarasaurus. Small theropods included Coelurus, Hesperornithoides, Tanycolagreus, and Ornitholestes.
The Morrison didn’t only have a large diversity of dinosaurs. Many pseudosuchians lived alongside Saurophaganax, from the skittering, long-legged Hallopus to the more aquatic Amphicotylus. Pterosaurs were uncommon but widespread, and included rhamphorhynchids like Harpactognathus and ctenochasmatids like Kepodactylus. Other reptiles like rhynchocephalians, lizards, basal snakes, and turtles were common as well. Many cynodonts, mostly early mammals, also called the Morrison home.
The Morrison Formation was also rife with other large predators that could have been either competitors or prey to Saurophaganax themselves. These include the previously mentioned Allosaurus and Torvosaurus, as well as the smaller Ceratosaurus nasicornis and Marshosaurus bicentesimus. As Allosaurus seemed to be the most numerous predators in this formation, they may have been successful pack hunters while Saurophaganax was more of a “lone wolf.” Its remains are much rarer than that of its smaller, lither cousins, and it was likely an opportunistic scavenger and hunter, needing much more food to power its larger frame.

Hiring high-ranking Nazis to test new torture methods on prisoners was only the beginning, however. By 1953, CIA scientists like Schreiber and Sidney Gottlieb—the titular character of Stephen Kinzer’s book, Poisoner in Chief—had initiated a sprawling two-decade campaign of reckless human experimentation best known by the codename MK-ULTRA. A quixotic but well-funded hunt for truth serums, brainwashing drugs, and other mind control techniques, MK-ULTRA scientists subjected countless non-consenting and/or otherwise vulnerable people to powerful drugs and interrogation techniques. In spite of being subject to three separate government investigations, only a small fraction of the total program has been publicly disclosed since the CIA shredded nearly all relevant documents. What little we do know, however, is horrifying. With the help of OSS veteran and federal narcotics detective George Hunter White, Gottlieb maintained a network of domestic and international “safe houses” where he would administer LSD to unwitting and “expendable” subjects such as petty criminals and drug users. Sometimes, Gottlieb’s expendable subjects included other scientists, such as bacteriologist Frank Olson, who was dosed with LSD and allegedly murdered by CIA, supposedly because of fears that he would reveal America’s use of chemical and biological weapons (CBW). The Agency has had more than its share of CBW-use allegations beginning in this period, including the open-air testing of aerosolized biological agents in New York City and spreading whooping cough on the coast of Florida in 1955. MK-ULTRA research was also conducted at university laboratories, such as those of Harold Wolff and Louis Jolyon West at Cornell Medical College and the University of Oklahoma, or Donald Ewen Cameron at McGill University in Montreal. Between 1957 and 1963, Cameron used CIA money to develop psychological “depatterning” techniques on approximately one hundred patients. These techniques included placing patients in extended drug-induced comas, LSD dosing for months at a time, electro-shock treatments, and forcing patients to listen to recorded messages such as “my mother hates me” played on a loop. A multi-million dollar class action lawsuit against McGill, the Canadian government, and the Royal Victoria Hospital on behalf of Cameron’s victims and their families is currently underway. MK-ULTRA later found a home in existing networks set up by scientific institutions and universities in the USA and Canada.

⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ HURRICANE UPDATE ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️
I've been doing a little research and trying to connect some dots with some information about hurricane Idalia. First off I will start with this article 👇
There are a few things that jumped out at me in this article.
#1 - Hurricane Hunters made their first flights into Tropical Storm Idalia on Sunday, launching what will be one of the largest sequences of flights and weather-balloon launches carried out in years to monitor a potential Atlantic hurricane.
#2 - The reconnaissance plan issued on Saturday included a flurry of NOAA and Air Force flights that began on Sunday to monitor Idalia as well as potent Hurricane Franklin, which will remain well east of the United States (see below). The biggest question marks on Sunday were how large and strong Idalia will be at landfall and where exactly on the Florida Gulf Coast it will arrive.
These 👆 alone should be making you ask questions, but let's continue. 👇
Tumblr media
Contaminated gasoline? 🤔
Citgo has released the following list of affected Florida gas stations:👇
Tumblr media
Most of these are along the western side of Florida. Where is Idalia tracking? The West side of Florida. 👇
Widespread Gasoline Contamination & Diesel
The stations affected by the contamination have been asked to stop selling gasoline until the fuel is replaced and the tanks are cleaned.
MY THOUGHTS: 👇
I'm getting Maui vibes... Right before a major tropical storm/hurricane? Thousands, if not possibly hundreds of thousands of vehicles affected, as well as home generators...
This is beginning to smell like sabotage. 🤔
I saw a list of states where possible DEW attacks may take place.
Here's that list: 👇
There were 15 states on a list that showed possible planned DEW Attacks in the future...
Texas, Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, California, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Oklahoma.
I don't want to create any fear with this, I'm just pointing some things out, I'm trying to connect some dots so people can be aware and prepare for the worst.
Am I right? >>> Is it Florida's turn?
We're about to find out... 🤔
Last comment: 👇
I have been in hurricanes multiple times and I have listened to the local news many times and this one started out as being a cat 1 at landfall, then it was said to be a cat 2 now less than 24 hours later they are saying it will be a powerful cat 3 and it will continue to intensify up until landfall so could it be a cat 4 at landfall? Possibly because I keep hearing the term "Rapid Intensification" more than any other hurricane I have been in.
Pay Attention and implement the 6 P Rule - Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. 🤔
EVERYONE STAY SAFE OUT THERE‼️ 🙏

background
TW: Infidelity
Growing up, there was nothing extraordinary about Imogen. She was an average girl next door, born into an average nuclear family, living in an average house with a white picket fence in an average suburban neighbourhood. Their parents were loving if a little old-fashioned, raising them to become someone who married into wealth, as opposed to someone who acquired their own wealth. They planned for her to attend college, but it was less about getting an education for a career, and more about finding a husband.
At college, she met a man from a prominent family and fell in love, marrying him after he graduated and dropping out of her own degree to become a full-time corporate wife. Their job was to support him, and they did that by keeping their home, by being in charge of their staff, and by planning their social calendar, making sure he went to the right events and met the right people there to network with. As a partnership, it worked well at first, but with time it became evident that was all it was—a business arrangement. She didn't mind that, but what she did mind was that she failed to feel as fulfilled by the life of a wife as she had been led to believe she would be, and the fact that he didn't seem to care how unhappy she was only made her feel more trapped. The handful of times that they tried to broach the topic of separation, they were met with adamant refusal, their husband's main concern being with the optics of divorce.
Things came to a head when she discovered that her husband was having an affair. At that point, Imogen knew that their marriage was over, but it was not because he had cheated on her—it was because she had felt relieved when she found out about it. Walking away with a small fortune due to the infidelity clause in their prenup, they were in the middle of starting over and figuring out what they wanted to do with their life when they met Ven Rawlins, joining him and his cameraperson Utena on the road.
She wound up putting her unfinished joint degree in Business Management and Communications to good use, becoming a mixture of a manager and a production assistant—handling the financial side of their operation and helping Ven build his channel into a sustainable business. Ironically, the same skills that had made them a good professional wife also made them a good networker and salesperson, allowing the three of them to take on bigger, more ambitious projects with higher risks.
They were on their way to their next adventure when they wound up in Huntsville. Imogen knows that Ven feels responsible, and while she doesn't love being trapped in a hell town, she can't find it in herself to regret how they got here. They know what it's like to simply exist without truly living—and they never, ever want to go back to that.

GALTx eNews: Just The Right Mix!
Last November, we welcomed four adorable Greyhound/Deerhound mix puppies from a Coyote hunter in Oklahoma:  Scarlett,  Tashah  (pictured left), Star (pictured right), and Elijah. They were born on July 27, 2022, and have now grown into wonderful young hounds ready to find their forever homes! That is, all except Scarlett, who overachieved and finalized her adoption last week. She will stay forever with her foster family.
Tashah likes to run and explore. She is fascinated by everything and loves everyone in a youthful way. She has learned a few things like "calm," “look,” and “touch.” She isn't possessive of toys or food and doesn't seem to have any separation issues. She is not at all timid with larger dogs and loves to play. Tashah still needs supervision as she likes to dig and chew. But when she sleeps, she is out for the entire night!
Star loves romping in the cold snow and could spend her entire day outside digging and hunting. She likes to watch the birds through the window and does well with her Greyhound foster siblings. She is a big cuddler and already knows how to sit on command. Like her sister, she is not possessive of her food or toys and doesn't show any separation issues. She responds well to her name and can follow “look” and “touch” commands too.
Elijah plays from the moment he wakes up until he sleeps at night. Toys, bully sticks, and twigs are all favorites. He could win awards for his digging skills. But somehow, he still finds time to climb into your lap for cuddles. Elijah can be a little shy when meeting new people or going to new places, but he warms up quickly. He tends to be a bit of a velcro dog around the house and will sing a bit when left home alone. He knows a few comments like "come" and "go to bed." Elijah loves his routine, and it's important to him because he takes Keppra every 12 hours to control seizures. He is doing really well on his medication and it's important he continues to take it on time twice a day.
None of these young hounds should live with cats but all will make the right family a wonderful companion. If you would like to adopt one of them, please let your adoption coordinator know or complete our online adoption application here.

The Venator-class Star Destroyer Cruiser Protector served as the flagship of the 101st Fleet and the personal command ship of Jedi Knight/General Rhydon Kenobi and Fleet Admiral Whitney Thomas. The Protector, like her sister ship, the Peace of the 82nd Attack Fleet, boasted the Sapphire Blue colors of the 101st Legion rather than the standard crimson red colors of the Republic Navy and was always seen leading the 101st Fleet from the front. Because of the leading from the front belief of the Protector's commanding officers, many in the 101st Fleet would find inspiration, and many ships would follow behind their flagship, eager to see the mission through. Throughout the war, The Protector would be home to many individuals in the 101st Legion, from Rhydon Kenobi and his wives: Zarina Kenobi, Taylor Smith, and Sierra Sommers, to Rhydon Kenobi's padawan Zayla Secura, Admiral Whitney Thomas, ARC Commander Zeus, and many others.
Continuing to fight through the Clone Wars, the Protector would see action through battles such as Christophsis, Ryloth, Geonosis, Saleucami, Kamino, Sullust, Umbara, Ringo Vinda, Anaxes, Coruscant, and Mandalore. Through each battle, the Protector was flanked by the Venator Battleships North Carolina, Washington, Arizona II, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, California, Tennessee, Nevada, Oklahoma II, Venator Carriers Enterprise, Yorktown II, Hornet II, Wasp II, and Venator Cruisers Baltimore, Bremerton, Arquitens Light Cruisers Brooklyn and St. Louis, Aspis Destroyer Laffey, and Aiwha-class Stealth Ship Nautilus. An aspect of the Protector that made it an impressive ship was the customization that Rhydon Kenobi and Whitney Thomas put into the ship; not only did the cruiser possess a unique color scheme related to its Jedi commander, but the Protector also boasted an advanced shield, armor, and a better weapons system, than most Venator cruisers. This amount of customization to the Protector was seen by many as unnecessary, but Rhydon Kenobi and Admiral Thomas stood by their decision to increase the ship’s combat capabilities.
The downfall of the Flagship Protector would come from several of the final battles of the Clone Wars, in which the ship’s shields were weakened and her armor damaged. This weakened state would come to be stressed to its limit in the Battle of Coruscant, where despite the Protector being kept in the rear of the battle for once, she would still be struck by enemy fire in the battle. Following the Battle of Coruscant, Rhydon and Admiral Whitney recognized that the Protector would more than likely not survive another battle without extensive repairs, but the need to deploy the remaining ships of the 101st Fleet to Mandalore had forced them to put repairs on hold. Rhydon and Whitney’s decision was due to the remaining half of the 101st Fleet, as well as the 332nd Armada, were already at Mandalore, performing a siege operation against the forces of Darth Maul and the Dark Acolyte Zolan Chan.
Upon their arrival at Mandalore, Rhydon had Admiral Whitney transfer any important equipment, as well as any personal items, to anyone aboard the Protector, onto the Enterprise while he led the ground forces to the planet's surface. This would prove beneficial when Order 66 was initiated, causing several clone crew members to turn against the Jedi leadership. Fortunately, the crew of the Protector, and consequently the Enterprise, and several other important 101st Fleet ships, were loyal to the Jedi and refused to follow Order 66, but this would, however, put a massive target on them, as the ships that were going through with the Order, turned on them. As it was, the Protector was situated in the middle of the Fleet formation, and while a good number of the surrounding ships were Jedi loyal, several ships weren't, thus leading to the 101st flagship being fired upon, causing her already weakened state to be further stressed to the breaking point.
Although Admiral Whitney did her best to keep order on the Protector, she would be forced to order the crew and all other clones and personnel aboard to evacuate the cruiser and quickly make her way to an escape pod. In the end, this would come to be the best choice, as the Protector would explode in a massive fireball as the escape pods and vessels made their way to any nearby Jedi loyal ships, the majority of them, including Admiral Whitney's pod, made their way to the Enterprise. Admiral Whitney Thomas would meet up with Commodore Wilhelm Halsey, who served as the commander of the Enterprise, and Jedi General Rhydon Kenobi, who had returned from the planet's surface after being rescued by female clone troopers, alongside his apprentice Zayla Secura, wife Zarina, and the Jedi loyal male clone troopers. After this, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Carrier Enterprise would take up the torch as the new flagship of the 101st Fleet, continuing to honor the legacy of the Venator-class Star Destroyer Cruiser Flagship Protector.

They built a Home in Oklahoma for themselves. They already had a Hunting Lodge and cabins for hunting friends to stay in. Blake stays in his home not at the Lodge even when he is by himself in Oklahoma without Gwen even if there are hunters staying at the Lodge. My opinion is that he spent a lot more time with Gwen at the house once she arrived than with the hunters/fishermen.

Last Time on Hunter x Hunter
New HxH chapter is out but it’s been quiet at least among the fans I know... it seems because no one remembers what happened last time.  :P
Probably this would be a good time to go back to the HxH subreddit because I bet the redditors are loving this chapter dedicated to mafia flunkies fighting each other using absurd powers and are digging up their old reference charts and theories and putting them up on the wall like Pepe Silvia as we speak.

Ahem.  Anyway here’s your recap of what’s going on in the manga currently... spoilers ahead!!!!

I’m trying to stay focused on the local battlefield as a way to stay semi-calm. Kansas voters are in a unique position in red states in that they get a direct say on whether or not to protect abortion. August 2nd will have a vote on an anti-abortion amendment to the KS constitution. If the amendment fails, abortion will remain legal here. The Kansas Supreme Court ruled abortion is protected under the KS Constitution. So it’s either the amendment or nothing for the forced birth assholes. They can’t simply pass a law like other states have. This vote isn’t just important for Kansas. It’ll have major ramifications for the region. Missouri will ban all abortions. But if choice stays legal in Kansas, then the Kansas City metro will still have clinics available. Plus, it’s not a bad drive from Oklahoma City to Wichita, or from Omaha to KC. Polls show a majority of Kansans want abortion to remain legal. There’s a good chance we’ll win this one. Enough of a chance that I’m allowing myself to hope. Kansans for Constitutional Freedom is the main group organizing the “Vote NO” fight in Kansas. They’re a coalition of Democrats and Republicans, Planned Parenthood, ACLU, and other groups. If you have a few bucks to spare, please consider them.

Phantom Troupe thoughts
SPOILERS FOR MANGA CHAPTERS 395 and 396!!!!!
...Ahem.  I haven’t checked the main tag or been on tumblr much in the last few weeks so forgive me if this is old news but... catching up on Hunter x Hunter and can’t believe that in the year of our lord 2022, we finally have canon confirmation that the Sheila conspiracy theorists were right all along!!!
Tumblr media
Sheila confirmed member of the OG phantom troupe!!  Also the book she gave little Kurapika and Pairo in the “Kurapika’s Memories” chapter, that inspired them to want to leave the tribe and attempt the Hunter exam, was probably “Dino Hunter” because it looks the same and Sheila only reads one book apparently.

The 80,000 warnings about the ao3 spambots on here are making me realize... do people on tumblr not know what an SEO scam is??????
Everyone warning each other to not click on the links... I mean yes this is just good internet advice, don’t click random spammy links, but if the point was trick you into clicking they would be doing a better job of pretending not to be bots, don’t you think?
The purpose of these comments is SEO optimization... just trying to increase their pagerank in search results on Google or Bing by making a lot of different pages link to them.
These aren’t a big deal if they hit the accounts of active writers, who have plenty of tools to get rid of them.  The game is to hit the accounts of writers who aren’t  checking their emails, and won’t bother to log in / mark as spam.  Then the comments stay up and help with getting their links on early pages of search results or making them look more legitimate.
Anyway here’s something for the AO3 engineering team to do - figure out where these bots are coming from and block the domain.  Since ao3 is mostly volunteer labor we just wait until someone’s free to work on it or the board votes to pay for it, though.

Badger-Woman
Badger-Woman is a story of the Arapaho nation about a noble young hunter who refuses the advances of his sister-in-law and is then betrayed by her. The tale is similar to those of other civilizations, notably Two Brothers (The Fate of an Unfaithful Wife) from ancient Egypt, and the story of Joseph and Potiphar's Wife from the Bible.
As there is no known date of composition, it is unclear whether the Arapaho tale was inspired by the biblical story from Genesis 39 after Christianity was introduced to the Plains Indians in the 19th century. The story first appears in English in Traditions of the Arapaho (1903) by George A. Dorsey and Alfred L. Kroeber who collected tales, legends, and myths from the Southern Arapaho of Oklahoma and the Northern Arapaho of Wyoming during an expedition sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History. Dorsey and Kroeber periodically insert editorial comments throughout the work but make no attempt at dating any of the stories in the collection.
North American Badger
Jonathunder (CC BY-SA)
The story could easily have been composed without any knowledge of the biblical tale as similar myths and legends appear in the works of other civilizations. Aside from the Egyptian and biblical tales, Badger-Woman is also thematically similar to the myth of Bellerophon and Anteia (or Bellerophon and Stheneboea) from ancient Greece in which the princess tries, unsuccessfully, to seduce the hero and then claims he made advances on her. The Arapaho tale is also reminiscent of the story of Ning Caicheng and Nie Xiaoqian from China in which the ghost of the maiden Nie tries to seduce the hero Ning, who resists her advances. In the Chinese tale, the seductress is not punished, however, but comes to admire Ning's virtue and is eventually saved by him and restored to life.
Like these other tales, Badger-Woman was a popular tale among the Arapaho and continues to be told today in Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Sioux communities. The story fits the definition of a didactic myth – intended to teach or instruct – and a morality myth emphasizing the importance of cultural values in a given civilization.
Similarities & Symbolism
The figure of the spurned seductress first appears in world literature in The Epic of Gilgamesh when the advances of the goddess Inanna/Ishtar are rejected by the hero, and she then takes her revenge. This story is well-known, but the more obscure tale of Two Brothers (The Fate of an Unfaithful Wife) from the New Kingdom of Egypt (c. 1570 to c. 1069 BCE) is similar in theme and plot.
In this story, there are two divine brothers, Anubis and Bata, living with Anubis' wife. She tries to seduce Bata, who rejects her, claiming he cannot betray his brother, but promises he will tell no one of her solicitations. The wife, however, does not believe him and, when Anubis returns home, she tells him that Bata tried to seduce her. Anubis swears revenge on Bata, but he, warned by the gods, escapes. Anubis later learns the truth, rejects his wife – who is punished – and is reunited with Bata.
This myth is sometimes compared with the tale of Joseph and Potiphar's Wife as given in Genesis 39:6-20. Potiphar, an Egyptian official, takes the Hebrew slave Joseph into his home and makes him steward. Potiphar's wife propositions Joseph, who rejects her and runs from the house but leaves his cloak behind. The wife then claims that he attacked her, but, when she screamed, he fled, leaving his cloak in her hand. He is then arrested and thrown into prison but, guided by God, is eventually vindicated, and set free.
Badger-Woman takes its place alongside these in exploring the same theme. Two brothers are on a hunting expedition along with the wife of one of them. The wife tries to seduce her brother-in-law, is rejected, and swears revenge. The story features symbolism used in Native American literature generally and Arapaho literature specifically, including the number four, the number three, and various animals.
The number four often appears in Native American myths and legends as representing the four cardinal points of the compass and the spirits of the four winds and so is understood as sacred. The number three is sometimes used in stories to suggest balance or imbalance. The wolf is often depicted, as it is here, as a powerful spirit guide and helper, to be respected, not feared. These symbols are all used according to traditional understanding, but the badger's traditional symbolism is inverted.
The badger, traditionally, is also seen as a potent spirit guide. Scholar Bobby Lake-Thom writes:
The badger is a good sign, meaning protection, but he can also warn of danger when you are traveling…Badger medicine can be warrior medicine, doctor power, and protective power. He is courageous, tenacious, and defensive.
(77)
In this story, however, Badger-Woman is duplicitous, lustful, and treacherous. Instead of defending and protecting her family, she seeks to destroy it for her own ends when she does not get her way. The wife in the story came to be associated with the animal and, for the Arapaho, changed the animal's symbolism. The story was so popular that, according to Dorsey, the Arapaho word for "badger" and for "murderer" were the same (192). Other Native peoples of North America seem to have retained the traditional symbolism of the badger, although some tales of the Cheyenne and Sioux seem to suggest they had, at least somewhat, adopted the Arapaho understanding.

Submarine Hunters: Aircraft Specializing in Anti-Submarine Warfare During WWII by Aviation Buffs such as Bob Baker
World War II marked a pivotal era in aviation, where aircraft played an essential role not only in conventional air combat but also in specialized missions such as anti-submarine warfare (ASW). The battle against submarines, particularly those deployed by Germany and Japan, was crucial to the success of Allied naval operations. Submarine hunters, or anti-submarine aircraft, became a vital component of the Allied strategy to safeguard vital sea routes and disrupt enemy supply lines.
The evolution of anti-submarine warfare during WWII saw the development of specialized aircraft designed to detect, track, and destroy enemy submarines. These aircraft employed a range of innovative technologies and tactics, from sonar and depth charges to aerial reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. This blog explores the history, technology, and impact of anti-submarine aircraft during WWII, highlighting their significant contribution to the Allied victory.
Early Developments and Need for Anti-Submarine Aircraft
The necessity for anti-submarine aircraft emerged early in WWII as submarines, particularly German U-boats, posed a severe threat to Allied shipping. The Battle of the Atlantic demonstrated the devastating impact of U-boat attacks on merchant and naval vessels, prompting the Allies to seek effective solutions to counter this menace. Early ASW efforts involved adapting existing aircraft for anti-submarine roles, leading to the development of specialized aircraft.
Initially, aircraft such as the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Avro Anson and the U.S. Navy’s PBY Catalina were repurposed for anti-submarine duties. These early aircraft were equipped with rudimentary ASW equipment, including depth charges and bombs. Despite their limited effectiveness compared to later developments, these initial efforts laid the groundwork for more advanced ASW aircraft and tactics that would evolve throughout the war as highlighted by aviation enthusiasts like Bob Baker.
The Rise of Specialized Anti-Submarine Aircraft
As the war progressed, the need for dedicated anti-submarine aircraft led to the design and deployment of several specialized models. One notable example was the British Lockheed Hudson, which became a key asset in the Battle of the Atlantic. Equipped with advanced sonar systems, depth charges, and bombs, the Hudson was instrumental in detecting and engaging enemy submarines.
Another significant development was the U.S. Navy's introduction of the Grumman TBF Avenger. Initially designed as a torpedo bomber, the Avenger was adapted for anti-submarine warfare with modifications such as enhanced sonar equipment and additional weaponry. Aviation buffs such as Bob Baker convey that its robust design and effective ASW capabilities made it a formidable opponent to Axis submarines, contributing significantly to the success of Allied naval operations.
Technological Innovations in Anti-Submarine Warfare
The effectiveness of anti-submarine aircraft was greatly enhanced by technological innovations developed during WWII. One of the most significant advancements was the use of radar and sonar systems. The development of airborne radar allowed aircraft to detect submarines even when they were submerged, while sonar, particularly the “Asdic” system, enabled precise tracking of underwater targets.
Additionally, advancements in weaponry, such as depth charges and homing torpedoes, improved the ability of aircraft to engage and destroy submarines. The introduction of these technologies marked a significant shift in ASW tactics, allowing aircraft to locate and attack submarines with greater accuracy and effectiveness as pointed out by flight enthusiasts including Bob Baker. These innovations were crucial in turning the tide of the Battle of the Atlantic in favor of the Allies.
Key Anti-Submarine Aircraft and Their Roles
Several aircraft played pivotal roles in anti-submarine warfare during WWII, each contributing to the Allied efforts in unique ways. The British Avro Shackleton, an evolution of the Lancaster bomber, was specifically designed for long-range ASW missions. Its advanced sonar and radar systems, combined with a large payload capacity, made it an essential tool in the fight against U-boats.
The American B-24 Liberator, initially a heavy bomber, was also adapted for anti-submarine roles. Its extensive range and bomb load capacity allowed it to conduct long-range patrols and deliver devastating depth charge attacks as noted by aviation enthusiasts like Bob Baker. The B-24’s versatility and effectiveness in ASW missions demonstrated the adaptability of WWII aircraft to various combat scenarios.
Operational Tactics and Effectiveness
The tactics employed by anti-submarine aircraft evolved throughout WWII as experience and technology advanced. Early ASW tactics focused on visual searches and the use of depth charges, but as radar and sonar technologies improved, aircraft could conduct more effective and prolonged patrols. Coordinated attacks, often involving multiple aircraft, became standard practice to increase the likelihood of submarine detection and destruction.
The effectiveness of these tactics was evident in the significant reduction of U-boat attacks on Allied shipping. By the latter half of the war, the Allies had achieved substantial successes in countering the submarine threat, largely due to the improved capabilities and strategies of anti-submarine aircraft. This success was a critical factor in maintaining supply lines and ensuring the overall success of Allied naval operations.
Legacy and Impact of Anti-Submarine Aircraft
The legacy of WWII anti-submarine aircraft extends beyond the immediate success of the war. The technological advancements and tactical innovations developed during this period laid the foundation for modern anti-submarine warfare techniques and aircraft. Post-war developments in aviation and naval warfare continued to build on the principles and technologies established during WWII.
Aviation buffs such as Bob Baker express that the experiences gained from operating anti-submarine aircraft influenced subsequent military strategies and aircraft designs. The lessons learned in detecting, tracking, and engaging submarines contributed to the development of more sophisticated ASW systems and aircraft, which continue to play a vital role in contemporary naval operations.
Anti-submarine aircraft played a pivotal role in World War II, significantly contributing to the success of Allied naval operations. The development of specialized aircraft, technological innovations, and effective operational tactics transformed the battle against submarines, turning the tide in crucial naval theaters.
The legacy of these submarine hunters is evident in the continued advancements in anti-submarine warfare and aviation technology. Their contributions not only helped secure victory in WWII but also shaped the future of military aviation and naval strategy. The effectiveness of WWII anti-submarine aircraft underscores the importance of innovation and adaptation in addressing complex wartime challenges.

The Thing from Tahlequah
Reading newspaper archives form the early 1900s seems like it might be the driest of all hobbies, but we should all by grateful for those unsung library moles who endure the tedium and frustration of loading a microfiche machine, for it is they who uncover the most marvelous of articles.
A prime example is an item once buried deep in an issue of the Oklahoman published in November 1920. Boldly featuring the word monster in its title, the article recalled an incident said to have occurred near the eastern Oklahoma town of Tahlequah in 1842. The "thing," described as reptilian, reportedly lived in a cave of unknown depth, which opened onto a bluff overlooking the Illinois River. For reasons unexplained or inexplicable, the creature left its home and started making its way across the prairie north of town, an action that unnerved the locals enough to call in well-respected elder and noted warrior Archibald Campbell.
Through the snow and ice, a messenger faced to retrieve Campbell, who took up his knife and his gun, and gathered a group of brave trackers to hunt down the beast. When the posse reached the prairie north of town, they discovered a broad track that had been cut clearly through the snow. The track, the men said, appeared "as if some animal the size of a bear had been dragged along." It remains unclear if the description was meant to convey the size of the creature itself or if perhaps the beast had been so powerful as to actually take down such large game, though either conclusion would have been reason enough to hunt it down.
Unfortunately, the creature had a considerable head start on the men. When the party reached the Grand River several miles west they got a glimpse of the monster. Climbing the snow-covered grade on the opposite bank, the creature turned and raised its head, which shocked the entire posse when they saw that the face resembled that of an alligator.
Regrettably, the late hour forced the party to camp for the night before continuing its pursuit. Moreover, by the next morning many had decided to drop out and return home. Campbell, however, backed by a few indomitable hunters, forged on. Given the path left in the snow, not to mention the horrible stench it was said to produce, the posse found no difficulty in tracking the creature. By late afternoon, they spotted him once again. Before they could get close enough to take aim, however, the men were stopped by a group of Osage Indians.
The Osage, who were familiar with the creature, had caught sight of it was well and intercepted, the hunting party to warn them not to continue. Insisting that the creature's thick scales were impenetrable by their bullets, they said continuing the chase would be futile. Besides, they said, it was not a creature to be trifled with.
The article conveyed few details of the ensuing conversation, but "so urgent were the appeals" that the Osage convinced Campbell and his bloodthirsty group to turn back.
Local history has since recorded no other sightings of the creature, though it has been suggested that the beast may have turned south and sought refuge in Mexico. It's also possible that the creature may have traveled as far as South America, which may have, in fact, been its original home. Interestingly, ancient artifacts uncovered from the Chiriquian natives who once lived in Panama are rife with images of a deity whose body was that of a human and whose head was that of an alligator.
